About this tour
Kottiyoor Vaisakha Maholsavam is a 28-day annual pilgrimage in Kannur, Kerala (May-June), celebrating Lord Shiva on the banks of the Bavali River. Commemorating the Daksha Yaga, it occurs in a temporary, rustic "Yajna Bhoomi" forest set-up. Key rituals include Neyyattam, bringing the sword from Muthirerikavu, Ilaneer Veppu (tender coconut offering), and Rohini Aradhana. The festival attracts thousands for its raw, nature-bound simplicity, often called "Dakshina Kasi". It begins with Neyyattam and concludes with Thrikkalashaattu, blending Shaiva-Vaishnava traditions.
