When traveling to high altitude parts of the trip above 2500 meters/9200 feet, it is common for travelers to experience some adverse health effects due to the altitude, regardless of age, gender, and fitness level. Take it easy and follow our suggestions to reduce the effects of sickness. Altitude sickness is very common for everyone who arrives at high altitude regions from lower altitude areas, but some are affected more seriously than others. There are ways to prevent or minimize the effects by preparing before you go to highlands. Here are some tips we have gathered from our past experience:
Only Chinese currency is used in markets, while US dollars and euros can be exchanged for yuan. You can change currency from banks in Tibet to Chinese yuan, which is the currency used in Tibet. You can also exchange INR in your country or find an exchange center in Nepal, but rates fluctuate almost every day, and the buying and selling rates always differ.
We recommend that you insure yourself against sickness, emergency surface or air rescue, accidents, trip cancellation, medical treatment, hospitalization, etc.
You can make calls from almost everywhere in Tibet, which has good networking for mobile phones. During your stay at hotels, you can use Wi-Fi if available, or you can purchase a Chinese SIM card for 200 yuan.
